Paper Retriever® Programs

The Abitibi-Consolidated Paper Retriever® Program promotes recycling by placing Paper Retriever bins, at no-cost, in highly visible areas at schools, churches and other non-profit organizations in the greater metro areas of Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Buffalo, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, San Antonio, St. Louis, Toronto and Tulsa. The program is innovative, fun, and provides environmental education opportunities for children and their families as they become actively involved in the paper recovery process.

Partnerships with major publishers and other media in each market help to educate the communities on environmental awareness and the benefits of Paper Retriever® paper recycling. The division's Recycling Representatives distribute educational curriculum and other materials to participating organizations to help develop student environmental stewardship and paper recovery efforts.

As a fund-raiser, schools, churches and other non-profit organizations are paid for the recyclable paper collected at their locations. They use the funds for refurbishing playgrounds, beautification efforts, library enhancements, scholarships, field/mission trips, team uniforms and many other worthwhile projects.
