| Abitibi-Consolidated Recycling Europe
Recycled Fibre
One of the largest operators of curbside recycling schemes, collecting over 400,000 tonnes of recovered paper per year, Abitibi-Consolidated Recycling Europe was the first to introduce the paper bank system that remains the enduring symbol for the recovery of newspapers and magazines in the UK.
The Company was among the early pioneers of door-to-door collections. Extending its paper-only recycling schemes to fully-fledged, multi-material curbside programs, we now recycle paper, cans, textiles, glass, plastics, cardboard and green waste, with residual waste collections a natural extension of the Company's service portfolio.
The Abitibi Paper Retriever® program continues to lead the way in remunerating schools, scout groups, places of worship and other non-profit organisations, simultaneously passing on the baton of environmental stewardship to young children through a tailored educational program founded in the school curriculum.
Closing the loop with national and regional newspapers, to whom Abitibi-Consolidated supplies 100 percent recycled newsprint, the company is the largest contractor providing integrated waste management solutions to the pressroom sector through substantial, long-term contracts with many of the major printing groups. |
