Politique en matière d'aménagement forestier durable - Produits Forestiers Saguenay
Standard CAN/CSA Z809-02 certifies that the forest is managed in accordance with sustainable development principles. This Canadian standard requires that organizations conform with the set of criteria adopted by the Canadian Concils of Forest Ministers (CCFM) addressing several key aspects of sustainable forest management:
1. Conservation of Biological Diversity;
2. Maintenance and Enhancement of Forest Ecosystem Condition and Productivity;
3. Conservation of Soil and Water Resources;
4. Forest Ecosystem Contributions to Global Ecological Cycles;
5. Multiple Benefits to Society;
6. Accepting Society's Responsibility for Sustainable Development.
Furthermore, in order to allow a larger number of holders of Timber Supply and Forest Management Agreements (TSFMAs) to become involved, Abitibi-Consolidated Company of Canada, Québec-Centre Region (St-Fulgence) (now Produits Forestiers Saguenay) offered other holders of TSFMAs three distinct participation options.
Your opinion matters
We would like to know how you feel about sustainable forest management in the Saguenay region. What values are important for the management of the forest? What should the forest look like in the future? How should sustainability be measured? Your opinion can help shape the future. Please take the time to answer our public opinion survey.
You can also send us your comments at any time. Comments received will be considered during our management reviews and, when possible, integrated into our next General Forest Management Plan (GFMP 2005-2030).
Sustainable Forest Management Plan
In order to obtain standard CAN/CSA Z809-02, certification, Abitibi-Consolidated Company of Canada, Québec-Centre Region (St-Fulgence) (now Produits Forestiers Saguenay) is currently preparing a Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) plan. This plan will outline the range of social, environmental, ecological and economic issues that will impact the future of the forest.

CSA Committee
In collaboration with the Defined Forest Area (DFA) stakeholders, the CSA Commitee was formed to gather information and address the social, environmental and economic concerns associated with the area.
Formed democratically, the CSA Committee includes representatives of interest groups present in the DFA. These representatives are working on the SFM plan and defining the related Values, Objectives, Indicators and Targets (VOITs). They are also involved in monitoring the performance of the plan and recommending improvements.
A stakeholder participation process supports the efforts of the CSA Committee.
Audit
Bureau de Normalisation du Québec (BNQ) was retained to determine if the Environmental Management System (EMS), including the SFM plan, meets all the requirements of standard CAN/CSA Z809-02. Annually, a certified third-party auditor is required to review our SFM plan to ensure compliance with the various SFM requirements and specifications.

Current forest management plans
Several of the requirements of standard CAN/CSA Z809-02 are already addressed in the current general plans. The definition of the VOITs for the DFA thus began with an inventory of elements covered in the general plans for 2000-2005. The elements of sustainable forest management not covered by these plans are currently being discussed by the CSA comitee in conjunction with the stakeholders.
