Our Performance

Essentially all of the 15.8 million hectares of woodlands entrusted to the Company's stewardship throughout North America have been certified to recognized standards.html. This achievement makes Abitibi-Consolidated the industry leader in Canada in terms of forest certification, and has facilitated a shift of focus to chain of custody where necessary.

It is our people that make the difference. Information sharing and appropriate training programs are key to the implementation of SFM in our woodlands operations. They ensure our success in making the systems part of our operations, increasing their efficiency and allowing them to evolve as our needs and those of our customers change.

Forest certification is an evolving process, with credibility and market acceptance of the standards used being paramount. Having customers all over the world and more than 70 potential certification standards, we'll continue to promote the need for credible systems adapted to national and regional contexts and mutual recognition of the different standards.
